No other label describe themselves with such apt precision than Tim Sheridan's Veryverywrongindeed. Every track since their debut with Richard Seeley last summer has offered a unique sideways slant on today's sonic landscape. Ostensibly they're techno, but there's something else. Something you can't always put your finger on. Or, in the case of this particular VVWI release, put your finger in.

Yes, 'Freakshow' is by far the most twisted thing Tim has put his name to. And let's face it, he's been fairly weird since day one. Featuring Ferank Manseed, this first collaboration between Tim and Jon Carter since their short-but-perfectly-formed Saville Row days is a mixture of burlesque drama, pure poetry and lyrics so sexually explicit, they won't just make a whore blush, they'll make her cry and run away to convent, never to speak of sucky sucky again.

"A trip to the depths of depravity" taunts Ferank in his dark, demonic down pitched Newcastle accent. Spat with sharp clarity, each word slaps you in the face with shocking glee. Even the most liberal of listeners will double take at some of the more depraved acts this circus has to offer. Snow White, for example, gets a deflowering from seven dwarves. What they do to each other after, I'll leave you to discover. Or the spidergirl Magenta who really can get pleasure left, right and centre.

A twisted sideshow of the most sordid order, on paper it just sounds like a cheap trick. A grim gimmick. A horny hoedown that'll last the rest of the summer and very little more. In practice, however, it's much more than that; Ferank's messages are done with a fantastic sense of humour and the words play with each other even more than the otherworldly creatures he depicts. UK listeners also will find it hard not to pick up on his Newcastle accent; it's like a Big Brother bad dream. Or should that be wet dream?

Most importantly, however, is the music. Jon Carter's love for that classic acid house breakbeat is ever-present, the bass undulates rhythmically and the sporadic keys add a weighty sense of drama while Tim's own remix takes things towards a techier territory with added funk and bounce. Yes, you'll either love or hate those lyrics but there's one thing we can all agree on; it's unique.
Veryveryuniqueindeed.
